Gods of Egypt – Movie Review

Storyline:
The survival of mankind hangs in the balance when Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, usurps Egypt’s throne and plunges the prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. Hoping to save the world and rescue his true love, a defiant mortal named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) forms an unlikely alliance with the powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Their battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens for an epic confrontation.

Favorite Part of The Movie?

For me my favorite part of the movie would have to be the scenes involving Ra, his interactions between him and Horus, followed by him and Set, I feel were portrayed very well. I also enjoyed the scenes involving Bek and Hathor. Of all the gods in the movie, the character of Ra and Hathor, were the ones that came across the most real and the most relate-able. I mean don’t get me wrong the interactions between Horus and Bek were very entertaining, but it was also very predicable. Soul
My favorite part of the movie was the end, because at the beginning it was was nice and happy for about 5 minute, and then Set came along and ruined everything, and at the end they finally defeated him and it was back to being greatPunky Bo'ster
I liked the movie cause there is lots of fighting, and because there was big snakes that breathed fire. And I liked when they turned into their god people.DJ NUG'ster

Disliked About it?

I disliked how the actors, while they are good at what they do, they didnt really fit the roles they played in this movie. I felt that the roles were either over played or under played, with only a few characters stories that were believable.Soul
I didn’t like it when Set first came in because he came out of no where and killed his brother, which just confused me and mad me mad and upset.Punky Bo'ster
I didn’t like when the bad god tried to rule the world and he stole the brain and the eyes.DJ NUG'ster

Favorite Character?

My favorite character would have to be Hathor, I liked the fact that while she was a god, she also had a very humane side to her, I felt that the scenes in which she was present, balanced out the over/under acting of the other roles. Soul
My favorit character was Bek, because he was funny and entertaining, and was understandable, its hard to describe him he is just awesome!Punky Bo'ster
My favorite was the guy who had his eyes taken out, he was awesome.DJ NUG'ster

Disliked Character?

I really didn’t enjoy the character role of Urshu, I felt that his role just didn’t fit the story or the way it was played out just didn’t make sense. There were points where the scene felt like it required him to be intimidated and yet it came across as passive, and yet there were other scenes where it felt like the character was supposed to be bold or proud of nature and yet it came across as overly arrogant.Soul
I disliked Set because he was rude, mean and arrogant, and most of all he was a hog, he kept taking and taking, and yet, still was never happy, he was prepared to destroy the whole world just so he could be the only person and the best.Punky Bo'ster
I didn’t like the bad guy, because he wanted everything.DJ NUG'ster

Favorite Quote/Line?

Set to Hathor “Did you miss me?”
Hathor replies to Set “I have to miss you, I’m your prisoner.” Soul
In one of the scenes, Bek was running in front of Horus because giant snakes were chasing them, so Horus said to Bek “Run faster” and Bek said ” I cant” so Horus caught up with him and picked him up and started to run with Bek under his arm, the snakes were catching up so Bek said to horus “run faster” to which Horus replied “I cant”Punky Bo'ster
The man with no eyes to the boy “Run faster” and the boy said ” I cant” so the man with no eyes picked him up and started to run so the boy said to him “run faster” and the man with no eyes said “I cant”DJ NUG'ster

Would you Change/Fix Anything?

I enjoyed the story line and interactions between a few of the different characters, but I don’t feel they fit the theme of the movie. However I believe that in a different setting/era, it would have been easier to accept. Trying to take the characters seriously within the movie setting provided was a task within it self, let alone the fact that the story felt dragged out in some places and yet rushed in other. Side note: Last time I checked Egyptians, especially back in that time period looked like they had grown up in the dessert….. funny that :pSoul
I would make sure that the people wouldn’t have to sacrifices anything, because it was really up setting to watch people even giving up their own lives, and I would also make sure that Zaya was never killed, because that was unexpected and kind of up setting but then again, after everything they said about the after life, I was happy for her cause she got to go to the after life and they made it sound like an amazing place.Punky Bo'ster
I would stop when the girl got sucked in with the demons.DJ NUG'ster

Review Overview

Overall it was a good movie and the kids really enjoyed, I myself didnt love it or hate it. I do feel that the movie would have been a lot better and easier to watch, had all the character roles tied in better with the people playing them, I also feel that the storyline needed to be tided up a bit more, for a move that went for over 2 hours, I feel it could have been smoother in places. As mentioned before, I feel that some arts of the movie were over acted, I would like to say that filling to shoes of a god wouldn’t be easy, but then again the Marvel team dont seem to have an issue with it…..

Our overall rating:
8.2/10 Paws
